On 20 February,2019, we held a lecture entitled “The Success of the Dutch Agriculture Sector Exposed: Success and Challenges” by Dr. Evert Jan Krajenbrink, Agricultural Counsellor, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, at Deshima Lounge. As for the annual export value of this sector, Holland is the second largest country after the U.S.A., although its land area is as small as Kyushu. Showing many graphs and pictures, Dr.Krajenbrink explained the strategies for this success such as long term perspective to consolidate lands and to make this sector as a highly value-added industry, and how they had overcome severe crises since late 19^th century. He also referred to the challenges that Holland faces for the future. The lecture was very thought-provoking for the Japanese agricultural sector as well. After the lecture and active Q&A session, 44 participants enjoyed the social gathering with Dr.Krajenbrink.
