Bus Trip to Yuki and Mashiko
Date | Wednesday, 20 May 2015 |
---|---|
Venue | Yukishuzo, Yuki Tsumugi Museum, Fukumatsu (Restaurant), Ceramic Art Center Mashiko |
On 20 May, the bus trip was held to visit the two towns of traditional Japanese crafts.
First, 48 participants visited the 160-year-old wooden brewery of Yukishuzo and tasted the premium sake brewed using their traditional method. Then at ‘Yuki Tsumugi Museum’, we saw the display of beautiful, light silk and learned how they were spun and woven by hand. After sushi lunch with a small glass of sake, we visited ‘Ceramic Art Center Mashiko’ and freely toured museums, old kiln, pottery studios, and so on. Shopping was another highlight of the day, at the brewery, museum shops, local shops on the street, and even at the rest areas along the motorway. On the very sunny day in May, we shared the time to enjoy traditional Japanese culture, which has been both preserved and developed in history.
