On Friday, 26 May 2023, the bus trip to Ikaho and Lake Haruna was held to express our gratitude to Mrs. Joan Mitchell-van der Vliet, our honorary governor, who is leaving Japan this summer. 30 Participants including 6 Dutch members, first paid a visit to Mizusawa Kannon Temple, which has 1,300-year history. Then, we had healthy lunch of Mizusawa-udon noodles and fresh local vegetables. During lunch, a small letter box of lacquerware, traditional handicraft in Takaoka, was presented to Mrs. van der Vliet from all the members of De Liefde Club as a token of our gratitude for her gracious support for four years. In the afternoon, we drove up to Lake Haruna and enjoyed the view of Mt. Haruna Fuji. The landscape was filled with fresh green foliage and pink wild azaleas in full bloom. After stopping by famous Ikaho long stone steps, we visited Takehisa Yumeji Ikaho Art Museum. We were impressed by the collection of art, furniture, and musical boxes from Taisho Period. It was the day we could share ‘time to say goodbye’ in Ikaho, full of history, culture, and beautiful nature.
