On Friday, July 21, 2023, a lecture by Ambassador Peter van der Vliet was held at the Ambassador's residence. Prior to leaving Japan in August, Ambassador van der Vliet gave a lecture entitled "Reflections on Four Years in Japan" in which he touched on a wide range of events during his tenure, including the Covid-19 pandemic that began shortly after his arrival, the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games by one year and the holding of the Games without spectators, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the G7 Summit in Hiroshima. The participants listened to the lecture with great interest and asked the Ambassador many questions during a Q&A session. After the Q&A session, Treasurer Uchida thanked Ambassador and Mrs. van der Vliet on behalf of the organization for their support of the Japan-Netherlands Society. After the acknowledgment, Treasurer Uchida and Mrs. Koezuka, the Representative Governor of De Liefde Club, presented commemorative gifts and a bouquet of flowers to the Ambassador and Mrs. van der Vliet. The lecture was followed by a farewell reception for the Ambassador and Mrs. van der Vliet, where the participants bid them farewell.
