On Monday, October 6, 2025, we welcomed Mr. Yoshikazu Mori, a former professor at Tamagawa University, to give a lecture commemorating the 425th Anniversary of Japan-Netherlands Exchange. He provided a detailed explanation regarding the route of the Ship De Liefde from the Netherlands to Usuki-bay in Oita Prefecture washed ashore 425years ago, the reason why a wooden statue of Erasmus mounted at the stern of the Ship De Liefde enshrined at Ryuko-in temple in Tochigi Prefecture, and how the statue was identified as Erasmus. At the reception following the lecture, in honor of the Ship De Liefde, Ms. Reiko Koezuka, Representative Governor of De Liefde Club, a sub-group of the JNS, gave the toast. The participants could deepen exchange while enjoying wine and Dutch traditional cuisine, reflecting on the 425-year history of Japan-Netherlands exchange.
