On Wednesday, September 17, we welcomed Ms. Lisa Smit, a curator of paintings at Van Gogh Museum, to give an online lecture, and about 90 people attended. Ms. Smit was involved in curating the Van Gogh exhibition currently being held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, and she explained how Van Gogh works had been supported by his family. She shared that Van Gogh sent paintings to his brother Theo in exchange for his brother’s financial support, how Theo's wife Jo dedicated herself to promote Van Gogh’s work through exhibitions and published his letters, and how Theo's son Vincent built the Van Gogh Museum. We were also honored to receive a special video message from Willem van Gogh, Theo's great-grandson, and the advisor of Van Gogh Museum. Ms. Smit's lecture on Van Gogh's paintings and letters provided a valuable opportunity to deepen our understanding of Van Gogh's art and his family relationships.
