Trip to Nagasaki & Hirado

Date Thursday, 23 November 2017 - Sunday, 26 November 2017
Venue Nagasaki & Hirado
JNS hosted and successfully finished a Trip to Nagasaki & Hirado from 23 (Thurs) to 26 November (Sun), with 31 participants. On the first day of the Trip, we attended a concert of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The audience was moved and excited at its one of the best performances in the world. On the second day, there was the Dejima Omotemon Bridge Opening Ceremony, one of the main events of our Trip. Attended by Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino and Her Royal Highness Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands, we celebrated the restoration and opening of the Bridge and processed the first crossing. On the third day, we visited the Dutch Cemetery in the International Cemeteries at Goshinji Temple, usually closed to the public, and thought about many Dutch people who died in Japan. Then, we visited places in Hirado related to the Netherlands, such as the restored Hirado Dutch Trading Post, the Dutch wall, and the Dutch well. We realized the historical relation between the two countries. We also enjoyed many delicious specialty dishes such as Nagasaki Champon, Sara Udon or Shippoku Ryori. Three nights and four days had quickly passed, and we left Nagasaki with a lot of enjoyable memories. Visiting together the places which served as the foundation of exchange between the Netherlands and Japan, the participants talked a lot, and it became a special occasion for the members to deepen ties and strengthen mutual friendship.
