Lecture of Professor Masaaki Miyasako

Date Saturday, 10 June 2017
Venue Dome Theatre, Arts & Science LAB. 4F, COI STREAM, Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) in Ueno

On Saturday, 10 June, at the Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai), we hold a lecture by Professor Masaaki Miyasako, entitled “The Tower of Babel – New form of artistic expression by fusion of art and science technology,” with 39 participants. First, we learned about “clone cultural assets”, a specialized domain of the Professor. They are more than a pure reproduction of arts; the essence lies within the inheritance of “Japonisme”, development of the original art work. As seen in the Wall paintings of Bamiyan, thanks to the cutting-edge science technology, lost artistic pieces are re-created not only as an “object”, but works representing the spirituality and authentic ideas of the originals. Then we visited the Research development laboratory, usually closed to the public, and touched directly the re-created Van Gogh’s work and so on. Finally, enlarged high-definition 3D Computer Graphics images of “the Tower of Babel” were projected; we experienced the lively moving images of originally miniature characters. It was a precious occasion to promote a better understanding, by the Professor’s interesting talk, about an artistic creation at the front-line and its real examples.
